Nine years later, director and renowned celebrity portrait photographer, Simon Emmett, followed The Darkness on their long, rocky and hilarious comeback trail. From a small pub gig in the middle of nowhere with the ambition of performing at packed arena shows once
again, Welcome to The Darkness shows the stark reality of a “cult band” struggling to recapture former glory.

With unprecedented access, unseen archive footage, and intimate interviews filmed over eight years, Welcome to The Darkness is a tongue-in-cheek reflection on fame, failure, friendship and forgiveness. At its heart, this is a unique account of a band of brothers who are still haunted by the demons that ripped them apart. Regarding the shows frontman Justin Hawkins previously said, “We, The Darkness, are delighted to announce that we’ll be hitting the road in the U.K. once again. To commemorate the 20th anniversary of Permission to Land, our set will include every song from our debut album faithfully reproduced (with additional clam notes and meanderings) in the order in which they appear on the record. We’ll also play all of your favourite Darkness songs from the rest of our illustrious and tipsy turvy career. It will be the best show you’ll see this year. I should know, I’m the singer and also a YouTube music expert.”

He wants the world to know that he still stands by every single word of that statement, partly because this has all happened so quickly that he’s having a lie down to recover from the sheer joy that has overcome him, so we’ve not actually been able to get hold of him for more words.

However, we can guarantee that the shows will be a grand spectacle with the band playing the much-lauded, award-winning, foot-stomping, guitar-wailing, groove-making masterpiece in full. Kicking off with the splendid rifferama of ‘Black Shuck’ they’ll blast their way through all of Permission To Land’s 11 tracks in celebration of its 20 th Anniversary,

Today marks 20 years of The Darkness’ debut album, Permission to Land. To celebrate, Warner Music are set to release a 20^th anniversary reissue, Permission to Land… Again.

This is a special 4CD/1DVD release including the full original album, rare B-sides, bonus unreleased demos, as well as live albums from their iconic shows at London’s Astoria (2003), Knebworth (2003) and Wembley Arena (2004). As well as a 2CD edition with a reduced track listing.

Permission To Land… Again will also be released on 5LP vinyl, which mirrors the 4CD track listing. The original 1LP vinyl, which has long been out of print since the original pressing in 2003, has now been made available to purchase once again, alongside a new special blue/black marbled limited edition colour variant.

The Darkness and Black Stone Cherry have today announced an exciting co-headline UK arena tour for 2023. This upcoming tour will see one of the UK’s most well-loved rock heroes play alongside the legendary Kentucky-based group Black Stone Cherry. These two titans of rock will hit the road in 2023 across multiple venues around the UK, kicking things off on the 28^{th of} January in Cardiff at the Motorpoint Arena before hitting the road around the country including Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena, Glasgow’s OVO Arena, Birmingham’s Resorts World Arena, Manchester AO Arena, Leeds First Direct Arena before a major headline show in London at the Wembley OVO Arena on the 4^th of February 2023.

Mr Justin Hawkins – “Legend tells of a night, some ten or more years ago, upon which The Darkness and Black Stone Cherry serenaded the nocturnal creatures of Thetford Forest, receiving generally favourable reviews in the woodland press. Like the owls and squirrels of that fabled evening, we give to you an opportunity to stand beaks and mouths a-gape in awe and wonder at the awesome power of power chords played by the very same fingers, but within the convenient shelter of an arena instead of in a moon-dappled forest clearing. There may be some seating so you won’t have to sit on toadstools. Also, modern flushing toilet facilities, not just tree trunks and bushes. Remember what the Thetford fauna say – “The music of Black Stone Cherry and The Darkness is TREEmendous, and Never LEAVES you.”

Black Stone Cherry – “The rock n’ roll history books will tell you that on a summer’s night in 2012, tucked way back in the English countryside, two bands, from different parts of the world, came together to bring people a night of high energy, pedal to the metal, in your face unscripted rock ‘n’ roll.  A bond was formed that could only have been blessed by the wizards of said forest.  While discussing each other’s outfits and stage moves, a tour was spoken of, put into the galaxy if you will, and now we are honored to say the stars have finally aligned and we will be joining forces with The Darkness for what will be the UK’s most exciting tour of the season!  We absolutely cannot wait to create more magic and release the lightning that both bands caught in a bottle so many years ago.  Grab your friends, grab your family, but hold on to your asses because this tour is going to ROCK!”
